Tropical Floral Platter
The modern floral hand-carved large plate is functional art, blending detailed craftsmanship with contemporary design. Hand-carved floral patterns add texture and depth. Made from high-quality clay with a blue-green to turquoise, to chartreuse gradient glaze, it’s elegant and durable for daily use or special occasions. It’s large size fits various dishes, and each unique carving makes it a stunning centerpiece for any modern home.
“Sgraffito” is an artistic technique in which a layer of color is added on top of the clay while it is still leather-hard. Then the top layer is carved away to show the clay underneath and to reveal the design. Once the piece has dried, it is fired in a kiln. A glossy glaze is added and it is fired a second time.
If you look closely, you can see where all the clay was carved away. It’s a long process. Each piece is carved by hand without patterns - these are all my own freeform drawings.
It is a unique, hand carved, one of a kind, piece of art.
*All of my work is handmade using slabs, pinching or coiling methods so you may see how my hands manipulated the clay with their perfect imperfections. They will last much longer with handwashing and gentle care.
Each piece varies in size. This piece is approximately 10 3/4” diameter with a soft lip.
